Background to the Careers Hub

Ryders Hayes have been working with Black Country Skills Factory, on a successful bid, funded by the Careers Enterprise Company (CEC) to lead one of the first Primary Careers Hubs in the UK.

We have recruited 22 schools from across the Black Country to be represented on the Steering Group by a lead school from each LA as well as Local Authority representative. Ryders Hayes are lead school for the Black Country Primary Hub 2040 project.

We have designed a programme for 2022/23, which runs from EYFS to Year 6, to broaden horizons for our children and expose them to careers across 8 sectors in a progressive, age-appropriate way, as well as tackling stereotyping. It allows children to experience first-hand what it is like to work across a range of roles in each sector; to find out about apprenticeships and higher education routes; to explore what jobs will be available in 2040, supported by the local Labour Market Index (LMI) and to be inspired by real people working across the Black Country.

We have been commissioned to write the whole curriculum and create the resources for our Black Country colleagues to try out in their own settings, which will then be extended and adapted for different contexts by the group.

The aim is to provide a comprehensive range of high-quality resources available for everyone to enjoy, hosted on our website and The Black Country Skills Factory. Our pupils will experience the whole curriculum as it unfolds next year and our Pupil Leadership Team, who will be heavily involved in the creation of video resources in each sector from the pupil perspective, as well as interfacing with and interviewing employers from the 8 sectors in School.
