Ryders Hayes Teaching School
We were one of the first Primary National Teaching Schools in 2011, designated after a successful pilot, by the National College for Teaching and Learning. We deliver bespoke training and continuing professional development to hundreds of teachers and support staff across the Region. This helps us to stay at the cutting edge of education: a number of our staff are experienced facilitators, trained to support other teachers in developing their classroom practice; train future leaders of education, and to provide school to school support. We work in partnership with another Teaching School – Manor Teaching School, Coseley. We also work alongside Birmingham City University (BCU) and a local alliance of Walsall schools, to lead initial teacher training, School Direct, helping to grow our outstanding teachers of the future
Download Mind MapWhat are SLEs?
Specialist leaders of education (SLEs) are outstanding middle and senior leaders who have the skills to support individuals or teams in similar positions in other schools. They understand what outstanding leadership practice in their area of expertise looks like and are skilled in helping other leaders to achieve it in their own context.
SLEs can help to develop the leadership capacity of individuals and teams in other schools, using coaching or facilitation support that draws on their knowledge and expertise in their specialist area. The work will contribute to improving outcomes for children, with priority likely to be given to supporting the needs of underperforming and challenged schools.
These leaders are available to support leadership development in other schools. The current range of specialisms include: EYFS, KS1 and KS2, Maths, English, Teaching and Learning, SEN, Assessment and Marking, SLT systems and structures support.
It is an unpaid role for the SLE, but the school providing the SLE will charge £350 a day for the work they do to cover costs.
To enquire about our SLEs and how to broker support please contact: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
To apply to become an SLE please read the guidance and eligibility criteria carefully. The application form can be downloaded and must be returned to Ryders Hayes.
The SLE receives training once designated and then the Teaching School will broker the support on the SLE’s behalf.
Ryders Hayes is one of the 16 Teaching Schools designated nationally to provide training for SLEs.
