Maths
Vision
To inspire a lifelong love for Maths through engaging learning that builds step-by-step foundations, placing reasoning and problem-solving at the heart of real-world success

Curriculum Drivers:
Mathematics empowers children to explore possibilities by showing them that every problem has multiple creative pathways, encouraging them to spot patterns, ask "what if?", and connect abstract concepts to the real world. Through this process, pupils build independence as they learn to choose their own strategies, self-correct their work, and justify their reasoning with logical confidence. Crucially, this journey helps create resilience: by reframing mistakes as valuable steps in learning and embracing productive struggle, children develop the grit needed to break down complex challenges—equipping them with essential habits for life beyond the classroom.

Intent:
Guided by the Ark Curriculum Plus Mathematics Mastery approach, our curriculum ensures every child builds a secure, deep foundation in maths by prioritizing depth over speed and systematic progression. Delivered through the core pillars of conceptual understanding, mathematical thinking, and language literacy, pupils build sustainable skills using the Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) approach, engage in autonomous problem-solving, and articulate their reasoning with precise vocabulary. Ultimately, this framework empowers pupils to explore multiple solution pathways, select their own mathematical representations, and develop resilience by treating misconceptions as essential stepping stones for future learning.
Implementation:
Our Mathematics curriculum is implemented through the Ark Curriculum Plus framework, utilizing a consistent 6-part lesson structure and daily "Maths Meetings" to reduce cognitive load and strengthen retrieval practice. Concepts are systematically developed using the Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) model alongside variation theory, while mathematical oracy is fostered through explicit vocabulary instruction, stem sentences, and structured "Talk Tasks." Grounded in a "Mastery for All" ethos, the approach leverages continuous formative assessment and same-day keep-up interventions, ensuring all pupils progress together by mastering depth and problem-solving rather than accelerating through content.
Intended Impact:
The impact of our Mathematics curriculum is demonstrated by fluent, resilient pupils who are confident, articulate problem solvers prepared for everyday life and future education. Through the Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) approach and daily Maths Meetings, pupils build deep conceptual mastery and rapid recall, freeing working memory for complex problem-solving. They communicate reasoning using precise vocabulary and stem sentences, independently selecting the best representations and viewing mistakes as productive steps toward learning. Grounded in a "Mastery for All" culture, this approach builds growth mindsets, drives strong progress and attainment in statutory assessments, and uses targeted keep-up interventions alongside diagnostic data to close achievement gaps for all learners.
