Science

VISION:
We believe every pupil is a potential scientist!

PRINCIPLES:
EXPLORE: Create awe and wonder about the world around us and beyond.
PLAY: Allow children to investigate their own questions with practical resources.
DEVELOP: Give opportunities for children to explain and share their ideas and findings.
LINK: Inspire and support every single child to find out more.

AWE:
Children grow up understanding how to work scientifically; have the skills they need to succeed in all science subjects (biology, chemistry and physics) in further and higher education; develop important life-skills in relation to the world they live; and have high aspirations for their future careers.

Spotlight on Science

In science, pupils study a varied curriculum and learn to develop

their practical investigative skills by making predictions, planning

and carrying out experiments; selecting and using appropriate

materials; calibrating accurately; observing and recording

methodically; communicating discoveries and critically evaluating

their results. Children consider issues which affect their own lives, and the lives of others.

We have gained a primary science quality mark (PSQM) Outreach which recognises all of the excellent work happening in our science learning!

We coordinate a Science Ninjas project across the Black Country which focuses on gaining working scientifically skills through practical science work. Pupils will receive stickers to reward them for making progress in using observation, measuring, equipment and recording skills. All of this aims to help our pupils make accurate conclusions from their science practical work. As this is a pilot project we are working with other areas including Walsall, Wolverhampton, Sandwell and Telford. So far, children have been proud of their achievements and are gaining a deeper understanding of how to be a successful scientist.
