Our Community

Ryders Hayes School sees itself as an active member of the local community. We have strong links with:

The Local Churches

St Michaels of All Angels, Parish Church, Pelsall and Pelsall Methodist Church, both support in school and are special places, where we engage in a number of events throughout the year.

Music in The Community

The Ryders Hayes choir, of around 70 children have sung at The Old Vicarage Care Home at Christmas and MS Centre Wolverhamption.

The choir engage with Forest Arts Music Hub to form a massed choir each Christmas, whilst some of our advanced musicians attend ensembles in the evening at the Centre. We have also developed links with  Shelfield School Music Department.

The Pelsall Carnival

Ryders Hayes participates in the annual Pelsall Village Carnival, and each year the float is decorated by creative artwork produced by all our children from Pre-School through to Year 6. The float is supported by children, staff and families as we enjoy an exciting, fun day together in the community.

The Library

Due to the closure of our local library, the children look forward to the arrival of the mobile Library each Tuesday, just outside the school gates.

The Local Foodbank

As part of the school value 'Citizenship', the children and staff at Ryders Hayes support the foodbank by collecting donations half-termly for the local foodbank. This worthwhile service for local families in need is supported by our children at our Harvest Services.

MacMillan Coffee Morning

Combines support for a charity with the development of entrepreneurial skills, when Year 6 arrange a Coffee Morning and Bake Sale for the local community.

HAF Programme

Sainsbury’s began sponsoring high quality sports activities and other interests for children aged 5-15 years at Ryders Hayes for the full 6 weeks of the summer holiday. Free places were allocated to families in need within our area. Due to its positive outcomes and uptake we have been successful in partnering with Premier Sports in hosting the DfE Holiday and Food programme (HAF) for vulnerable children within the community at the end of each term during the holidays.

Polling Station

We make the most of being a Polling Station, and always stage our own elections in school at the time. Wendy Morton, M.P., has been to talk to the children about Democracy and Votes for Women, as well as supported in VE Day celebrtions. We have the loan of the Parliamentary Box and our Year6 children also enjoy a visit to The Houses of Parliament.
