Religious Education (RE)
Vision:
To foster reflective, open-minded, and religiously literate pupils who develop a deep understanding of world faiths, beliefs, and worldviews. Aligned with the Walsall SACRE Agreed Syllabus and NATRE / RE Today, our RE curriculum encourages children to ask big questions, explore diverse traditions, and build mutual respect, empathy, and personal values in a modern, multicultural society.

Curriculum Drivers:
Through our RE curriculum, pupils explore possibilities by inquiring into major world religions, non-religious worldviews, and diverse lived experiences; create with increasing independence as they express their own reflections, moral reasoning, and personal responses to challenging ethical and worldview questions; and build lasting resilience by engaging respectfully in open dialogue, embracing different perspectives, and celebrating diversity with empathy and understanding.

Intent:
-
Systematic & Thematic Enquiry (Walsall SACRE & NATRE): Build progressive conceptual knowledge of Christianity, principal world religions (Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism, Judaism, Buddhism), and non-religious worldviews (Humanism) using the NATRE / RE Today curriculum structure.
-
Disciplinary Approaches to Learning: Enable pupils to explore RE through three core disciplinary lenses: Theology (believing and key concepts), Philosophy (thinking and big questions), and Human/Social Sciences (living and how faith shapes everyday life).
-
Cultural Literacy & Respect: Promote religious literacy, tolerance, and critical thinking, equipping pupils to challenge stereotypes and navigate a complex, diverse global community with kindness and respect.

Implementation:
-
NATRE / RE Today Scheme Delivery: Structured, fully-resourced weekly units from Reception (EYFS) to Year 6 that meet all statutory requirements of the Walsall SACRE Agreed Syllabus.
-
Cohesive Progression & Key Questions: Each unit is driven by an overarching enquiry question (e.g., What does it mean to belong?, How do beliefs shape actions?), using a balance of textual analysis, artefact investigation, and lived-experience stories.
-
Sticky Knowledge & Subject-Specific Vocabulary: Systematic instruction using NATRE key vocabulary banks, knowledge organizers, and low-stakes retrieval quizzes to solidify key concepts in long-term memory.
-
Enrichment & Experiential Learning: Learning is enhanced through visits to local places of worship, visitors from faith communities, and engagement with religious celebrations.

Intended Impact:
By the time children leave primary school, they are religiously literate, respectful, and thoughtful individuals. They possess a broad knowledge of world religions and worldviews, can articulate their own personal beliefs with clarity, and demonstrate the empathy and tolerance necessary to live and thrive in a diverse global community.
