Physical Education (PE)
Vision
At Ryders Hayes, we believe every child should have the opportunity to engage and thrive
in high-quality Physical Education. Our aim is to cultivate a passion for lifelong enjoyment,
physical activity, and healthy living, while nurturing confidence, resilience, and positive attitudes through
inclusive sporting opportunities for all.

Curriculum Drivers
Physical Education directly embeds our three curriculum drivers by empowering children to explore possibilities, create independence, and build resilience. Pupils explore possibilities through exposure to a broad array of sports, intra-school competitions, leadership roles, and signposted community clubs that broaden their horizons beyond the classroom. They create independence by making strategic tactical choices, selecting appropriate adaptive resources, taking charge of their daily active minutes, and using subject-specific vocabulary to direct their own learning. Finally, children build resilience by learning to navigate competitive outcomes, persisting through challenging physical skills, and persevering in a supportive environment where setbacks are embraced as steps toward growth.

Intent
-
Inclusive Access: Ensure PE is accessible to every child through targeted adaptations, tailored equipment, and scaffolding that removes barriers to participation.
-
Whole-School Engagement & Attendance: Use active learning, active parent partnerships, and sporting opportunities to build belonging, promote healthy habits, and drive overall school attendance.
-
Progression & Vocabulary: Broaden opportunities, especially for younger year groups, while explicitly embedding subject-specific tier-3 vocabulary to build communication skills.
-
Narrowing Attainment Gaps: Utilise responsive in-lesson support, precise assessment tracking, and pupil interests to engage all groups.

Implementation
-
Active Learning & Skill Building: Children participate in engaging, high-energy PE lessons where they practice new movements, try out new tactics, and use specialised, adapted equipment that lets everyone join in and succeed.
-
Using Vocabulary & Collaboration: Children talk through their ideas, listen to teammates, and use tier-3 sport and movement words to explain techniques and direct play.
-
Taking Part in Events & Festivals: Children across all year groups take part in active play, intra-school competitions, sports festivals, and leadership opportunities both in lessons and during extra-curricular clubs.
-
Sharing Achievements & Community Sport: Children celebrate their sporting efforts with families during showcase events, track their progress, and explore local sports clubs outside of school.

Intended Impact
-
Lifelong Physical Literacy & Wellbeing: Pupils develop sustained physical literacy, confidence, and a positive mindset toward active, healthy lifestyles both in and outside of school.
-
Embedded Inclusion & Success: All pupils, regardless of starting point or ability, participate meaningfully, make progress, and experience success in PE.
-
Connected School Community: Pupils demonstrate transferable leadership and teamwork skills, while stronger parent engagement creates a shared culture of health and active living.
