Design & Technology

VISION:
We believe every pupil is a designer, user of technology and an engineer.

PRINCIPLES:

EXPLORE: Create awe and wonder about the world around us and beyond.
PLAY:  Allow children to design, make mistakes and improve their designs
DEVELOP: Give opportunities for children to explain and share their ideas and findings, particularly about improving the world around them (linked to sustainability).
LINK: Inspire and support every single child to find out more, especially through careers in the field.

AWE:
To enable children to understand how important Design and Technology is to the up and coming world. Linking with subjects such as Science, Computing and Maths to create a STEM curriculum, we are allowing children to understand that technology is at the forefront of careers and aspirations for the future, allowing children to creatively and purposefully design for the future.

Design and technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. They acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. Pupils learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens. Through the evaluation of past and present design and technology, they develop a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world. High-quality design and technology education makes an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of the nation.
