Home-Learning

We believe that personalised Home-learning tailored for all children, with parental support strengthens home-school links.

Our Homelearning for Y1-Y6 will be shared weekly through Year group Google classrooms and for EYFS through SeeSaw.

The following areas are central to our home learning strategy and are designed to be a basis for discussion and agreement between the school and families.

  • Reading (all Year Groups): is the cornerstone of all learning. We kindly ask that all pupils read at home on at least three occasions across a week and that this is recorded in your child's pupil planner. This consistent practice will not only improve their reading skills but also foster a lifelong love of reading.
  • Phonics (EFYS, Year 1 & Year 2) For children in Year 1 and 2, developing a strong understanding of phonics is crucial for Reading and spelling. We will be focusing on the learning and understanding of phonics sounds and your support at home through regular practice will be invaluable in helping your child build their confidence and fluency in decoding new words.
  • Maths: our home-learning focus for maths will be on foundational knowledge that underpins more complex concepts:
  • Number Bonds (Year 1 & Year 2): In Years 1 and 2, we will be focusing on the learning and quick recall of number bonds which is vital for future mathematical confidence.
  • Timetables (Year 2 onwards): From Year 2, we will be working on the learning and quick recall of times tables and with regular practice at home, will help your child build the speed and accuracy needed for success in maths. Children will be tested on these weekly in school.
  • Spellings: Weekly spelling practice will continue to be an important part of home-learning. We want to ensure that all pupils have the opportunity to succeed, and therefore, spellings will be adapted as needed for pupils as appropriate.
  • Additional Optional Learning: for those who wish to extend their learning, will be offered the option to complete additonal home-learning tasks through Google Classroom/Seesaw. This provides a flexible way for pupils to explore topics of interest and reinforce their understanding.

We believe that by working together, we can provide the best possible learning experience for your child and ask you to support the approach through signing the home school learning agreement in your child’s planner.
